In the news: IC students donate to charity drive

Illinois College students donated a ton of stuff as part of a Chuck It for Charity drive.

Two thousand pounds of clothing, furniture, small appliances with cords, basic household items, school supplies, books and unopened personal hygiene items.

And 313 pounds of nonperishable food items, too.

The overwhelming response came about through a collaborative effort led by Lori Large Oldenettel, coordinator of community engagement and service at Illinois College, and freshman Megan Prough of Carrollton.

Oldenettel shaped it loosely around what other colleges and universities had done.
Prough is in the leadership program at Illinois College and needed volunteer hours. Her advisor suggested she meet with Oldenettel.

“From then on, we’ve been working nonstop on it,” she said.
