President Steuer to address 179th Illinois College Commencement
Illinois College President Axel D. Steuer will address the 205 graduating students in the Class of 2013 during the college’s commencement exercise on Sunday, May 12, at 3 p.m. on the Historic Upper Quadrangle. Steuer will be addressing his final graduating class as president of Illinois College.

Illinois College will confer Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees upon its 179th graduating class. Axel and Loreli Steuer will receive Doctor of Humane Letters degrees along with 1968 graduate and Trustee Emeritus John Porter, 1963 graduate and Trustee Emeritus Eugene Wells and 1944 graduate Lee Westrate. An honorary Bachelor of Arts degree will be bestowed upon Illinois College Board of Trustee Barrett Callaghan.

Continuing the Illinois College tradition, the members of the 50th reunion class, 1963, are invited to march with the Class of 2013 processional at commencement. In case of rain, commencement exercises will be held in the Bruner Fitness and Recreation Center’s Sherman Gymnasium.

The annual baccalaureate service will be held Sunday at 10:30 a.m. in Rammelkamp Chapel with the Illinois College Department of Music performing a pre-baccalaureate concert at 10 that morning. The sermon will be delivered by Bishop Thomas John Paprocki, Diocese of Springfield.

A special ceremony will take place at 11:30 a.m. to officially rename the Illinois College Walkway that adjoins the college’s upper and lower quads to the Steuer Walkway. Graduating seniors, parents, friends and Illinois College family members will honor the Steuers for their dedication and service to the college community.
