As a final project this semester, Illinois College students participating in Professor Jeff Garland’s contemporary art class were given the task to create online exhibitions of professional contemporary artists.
The overall theme and selection of artists and their works were determined by three teams, each comprised of four students. Each student worked directly with an artist of their choice to represent them, just like an agent would, to contract works for the virtual galleries. The students then took it upon themselves to justify to the class why their artist was chosen for the exhibition.
“Working directly with the artists themselves was an amazing process and educational experience,” Illinois College junior Sarah Adcock said. “Along the way we conversed with them, developed a better understanding of their works and their motivations as artists, and ultimately, deepened our appreciation for their pieces.”
“Minimalism: A Celebration of Simplicity”
Featured artists and their works will be virtually on display through May.
