Illinois College Enactus team wins U.S. Regional Competition
The Illinois College Enactus team was named a Regional Champion at the Enactus United States Regional Competition held April 12 in Chicago. The event is one of 10 regional competitions held across the country in March and April.

“The students did a fantastic job on their projects and presentation this year in an effort to benefit the Jacksonville community,” said Professor John Rush, Sam Walton Fellow. “We are looking forward to the challenge of the national competition experience,” added Professor T.J. Devine, Sam Walton Fellow.

Illinois College is one of more than 500 Enactus programs in the United States. Participating students use business concepts to develop community outreach projects, transform lives and shape a better, more sustainable world.

During this academic year, the Enactus Illinois College team organized five projects in the Jacksonville community including a marketing plan for and participation in the Illinois College Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program.

“Our marketing program and Enactus volunteer tax preparers contributed to an 89% increase in the number of returns completed this year” said Brittany Staake, Encatus team member and tax preparer.

The Illinois College Enactus team includes seniors Matt Justice, Mackenzie Ralph, Brittany Staake and Corey Wilson; juniors Kelley Bishop, Brandon Fisher, Megan Sheley and Phil Sporcich; and sophomore Morgan Rush.

The culmination of the Enactus program is an annual series of competitions that provide a showcase for teams to present the results of their projects and be evaluated by business leaders serving as judges. Teams compete first at the regional and national levels, then at the international level when the national champion teams from each country meet at the Enactus World Cup.

As an Enactus U.S. Regional Champion, the Illinois College Enactus team now advances to the 2013 Enactus U.S. National Exposition in Kansas City, Mo., May 21-23.
