West Point history professor to discuss the misperception of war

Eugenia Kiesling, professor of history at the United States Military Academy at West Point, will be speaking at Illinois College on Monday, February 25, at 11 a.m. in Rammelkamp Chapel.

The topic of Kiesling’s speech is “The Truth that Military Historians Do Not Tell: How Language Shapes our Thinking about War.” She will discuss the ways in which Americans have a misperception of the nature of war, and how that misperception is rooted in the failure of military history adequately portraying the true costs of war.

Kiesling has a Ph.D. in history from Stanford University, a Master of Arts from Oxford University and a Bachelor of Arts from Yale University.

This presentation is free and open to the public.
