Current Sonya Project Programs
	For the spring 2013 semester, we have fifty-one Illinois College student volunteers in three local elementary schools, Lincoln Elementary, North Elementary, and Washington Elementary. Participating IC students are members of the leadership class, Alpha Phi Omega, Circle K, French 301, and Education 203 and former Sonya Project participants. Elementary students range from first grade to sixth grade.

	Sonya Project at Lincoln Elementary
	Since the Sonya Project’s creation, Illinois College students have met one-one with elementary students at Lincoln Elementary. During the spring 2013 semester, thirty-two Illinois College students are meeting weekly with Lincoln Elementary students for thirty minutes to work on the students’ reading skills, to be role models, and to provide emotional support through the one-one interaction. These volunteers are from the leadership course and are former Sonya Project participants.

	Sonya Project at North Jacksonville Elementary
	For the first time, Sonya Project volunteers will work one-one with elementary students at North Jacksonville Elementary. During the spring 2013 semester five Illinois College students are meeting weekly with North Elementary students for forty-five minutes to work on the students’ reading skills, to be role models, and to provide emotional support through the one-one interaction. These volunteers are from the Education 203 course and Circle K.

	Sonya Project at Washington Elementary
	Two new Sonya Project programs are also starting during the spring 2013 semester at Washington Elementary. Illinois College students will be helping with the Homework Club and with non-native English speaking students. The program at the Homework Club provides volunteers from Alpha Phi Omega to assist with the daily needs of the Homework Club. Students complete a variety of tasks, working one-one with an elementary student on homework or reading, working with groups of students on an assignment, and helping elementary students complete computer or tablet computer activities. The program with the non-native English speaking students matches one Illinois College student with one Washington Elementary student to complete activities and exercises to help the elementary students learn English and integrate into the Jacksonville community.
