IC artwork to be displayed at Downtown Gallery Hop
Illinois College students will be participating in the Downtown Gallery Hop on Friday, December 7, beginning at 5 p.m. on the square in Jacksonville.

There will be 10 to 12 art pieces by individuals, classes and groups from Illinois College that will be showcasing their work in the lobby of The Farmers State Bank and Trust building. The exhibit will be available to view all day Friday until the lobby closes at 6 p.m. The college’s first-year student program, IC Connections, chose “Community” as its overarching theme for the year, and events like the Gallery Hop are good ways to build upon that community spirit.

“To support this, the Leadership Program decided to invite campus members to create some expression of community that might connect the college to one of the newest and best expressions of community in Jacksonville, the monthly Gallery Hop,” Karen Dean, director of the Leadership Program and Ruth Badger Pixley Professor of Social Sciences, says. “The revitalized square has truly been a labor of love for those who have led this effort, and the program wanted to recognize and honor those efforts. We see this as just the first step in a number of projects and programs that celebrate and build on the community of Jacksonville.”

The centerpiece will be "Building Blocks," a piece of art by Arizona artist Holly Anderson. The artist is disabled and has found that art has helped her adjust to the chronic pain with which she must live. The art piece has found a permanent home at Illinois College and will be showcased in the bank’s lobby until the middle of January.
