|Donald Simonson, professor of voice at Iowa State University and past president of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, is coming to Illinois College as a part of the Department of Music’s Masterclass Series.|
Funded by the Richard T. Fry Faculty Collaboration Fund, Simonson will work with faculty and voice students in the masterclass on Friday, November 16, at 4 p.m. in Rammelkamp Chapel.
Simonson chairs the voice division at Iowa State and teaches voice, voice pedagogy, vocal literature and conducts musical theater. He is a graduate of Northwestern University and undertook advanced study at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst (Academy of Music) in Vienna, Austria. Simonson regularly performs leading roles and appears as a soloist with opera companies, symphony orchestras and chamber ensembles throughout Europe, America, Australia and the Far East. This includes concert performances with ensembles such as the Warsaw Philharmonic, the Wiener Philharmoniker Solisten, the Austrian National Radio Symphony and the Clemencic Consort. In addition, Simonson maintains an active research laboratory at Iowa State specializing in vocal acoustics. The results of his investigations have been presented at national and international conferences and published in leading scientific journals.
The masterclass is free and open to the public.
