Stephon Ferguson brings the spirit of MLK to Illinois College

Stephon Ferguson, an ordained minister, is keeping the memory and spirit of Martin Luther King Jr. alive by delivering his most famous speeches and sermons to audiences across the country and will bring this re-enactment to Illinois College on Monday, November 12, at 11 a.m. in Sibert Theatre.

Ferguson’s mission is to help continue the legacy of Dr. King by not only reciting King’s words, but more importantly educating people about his philosophy of love, nonviolence, peace and unity to help bring about positive change.

"You know they usually play a tape of Dr. King's speeches and sermons. So I'm hearing this, and I'm looking for the tape machine ... only to find that Stephon Ferguson is the machine. He sounds just like him," Rev. Jessie Jackson said.

Ferguson is an ordained minister of the Gospel. He served as a sergeant in the United States Army and worked as a radio personality and news reporter for 17 years. Ferguson relocated to Atlanta, the home of the late civil rights leader in the spring of 2011. When he’s not traveling, preaching or delivering the speeches and sermons of Dr. King, he works with National MLK Historic Site in Atlanta giving historical presentations. In 2010 he was certified by The King Center and Emory University to teach the Kingian Nonviolence Curriculum.
This presentation is free and open to the public.
