Illinois College students use chalk to raise awareness
Illinois College students took to the campus sidewalks with chalk in their hands Tuesday afternoon to get the word out about hunger awareness.

Central Illinois Foodbank partnered with Alpha Phi Omega, the student service organization of Illinois College, to chalk the campus sidewalks with hunger facts to raise awareness during September which has been deemed “Hunger Action Month” by Feeding America.

“This is a great way to raise awareness on the very real issue of hunger in our area,” said Kaleigh Friend, Public Relations Manager for Central Illinois Foodbank. “We are thrilled to see these students engaged and spreading information — knowledge is power,” she continued.

Facts shared through sidewalk chalk include statistics such as, “1 in 4 children are food insecure in Central Illinois,” and “Nearly 5,000 individuals in Morgan County are food insecure.” Through this information, the goal is to both educate and inspire action in those who see it.
