Illinois College sees increase in enrollment, again
Total undergraduate enrollment for the fall semester at Illinois College has increased 3.4 percent from the previous academic year. On the 10th day of classes, the traditional benchmark for student enrollment figures, the student body stands at 970 undergraduate students for the 2012-2013 academic year, the highest number of students enrolled since 2007.

Stephanie Elpers Chipman, vice president of enrollment and college marketing at Illinois College, said high quality academic programs and dedicated faculty are attracting more students to the college. In a year when many colleges and universities in Illinois experienced lower enrollments, Illinois College was able to increase the size of enrollment, the diversity of the student body and the academic profile of the first-year class. Twenty-six percent of all first year students have self-identified as being persons of color. In addition, the average high school GPA of the incoming students is 3.51; and 30 percent hail from the top 10 percent of their class with 12 valedictorians in the group.

“This is the brightest, most diverse first-year class we’ve had in recent years, and I’m thrilled to welcome them to campus,” she says. “Our admission counselors are continually sharing the story of Illinois College – and it’s a great history. Their success in bringing new students to campus reflects the high value of an outstanding liberal arts education.”

Illinois College President Axel D. Steuer concurs, “Over the last several years, Illinois College has improved the academic experience for all of its students, increased campus diversity and is clearly focused on student success. Our increasing enrollment numbers and the positive recognition the college is receiving in college rankings and among foundations is compelling evidence that Illinois College is well positioned to claim its place among our nation’s top 100 liberal arts colleges.”
