On what was named “Jeans for Jacksonville Day” at Illinois College this past Monday, 336 items of food weighing 337 pounds and $276 was donated to the Jacksonville Food Pantry.
In light of the shortage at the local food pantry, the college’s Employee Appreciation Committee organized a day where faculty and staff members could wear jeans in exchange for a $5 cash donation or nonperishable food donation.
“It was a very successful day as we had 61 participants that generously donated. I want to thank everyone who participated,” Teresa Smith, director of human resources at Illinois College, said. “I’m proud to be a part of a college community that sees the value in serving our community.”
