The tradition of sharing and caring through service in the Jacksonville area will be on display Sunday, August 26, at 1:30 p.m. when teams of Illinois College students, faculty and staff tackle a variety of projects at Community Park.
The college’s 19th Annual Community Service Blitz will have volunteers working on a number of projects which include painting, pulling weeds, washing windows, repairing bleachers and organizing storage sheds to name a few. The largest undertaking involves 225 volunteers grabbing a brush and giving the iron fence along Main Street a new coat of paint.
Other work within the Community Park area will be at the Jacksonville Area Chamber of Commerce, the baseball fields, the Crisis Center Foundation, the Educational Day Care Center, Elk’s Little League, the Jacksonville Developmental Center’s Bowen Building, the historic gazebos and at Prairieland United Way where the volunteers will help with a 1,000 piece mailer.
Over 320 new students, returning students, faculty and staff are expected to participate in the service event.
