Statistical Literacy Embedded Experience
Course and Embedded Experience Guidelines

In order to qualify as a Statistical Literacy course, it must

1. focus primarily on quantitative statistics and an application to an important question about our world;
2. focus on developing statistical thinking as a habit of mind by stressing conceptual understanding rather than mere knowledge of procedures;
3. involve multiple data collection experiences;
4. foster active learning in the classroom through the use of real data;
5. include material about ethical issues involved in the collection, analysis, interpretation, and analysis of data;
6. include multiple assignments that involve critiquing news stories or journal articles that include statistical information, including identifying what is missing in the presentation and the flaws in the methods used to generate the information;
7. require students to present data using at least 2 formats (including but not limited to research papers, poster presentations, and public speeches).
