Course Guidelines
In order to qualify as a Science in Society course, a course must
1. focus on scientific content and scientific principles from one or more fields within the natural, physical, or social sciences;
2. incorporate a variety of disciplinary perspectives, within or in addition to the natural, physical, or social sciences, on the topic(s) being investigated;
3. integrate and facilitate students’ understanding of the scientific method as a key approach to addressing research questions;
4. focus on the intersection of human societies with the natural, physical, or social sciences in addressing societal issues.
In order to qualify as a Science in Society lab science course, a course must satisfy the four course guidelines listed above and also incorporate the equivalent of at least 2 hours per week conducting laboratory experiments or field research in the natural or physical sciences. |
