Justin Mallett, Director of Diversity and Multicultural Affairs at Illinois College, has been at Illinois College for the last two years. Prior to coming to Illinois College, Justin worked as an admissions counselor and coordinator of new student orientation at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP).
Justin was born and raised in Kosciusko, MS. He is the only boy in his family of 5 sisters. After graduating high school, Justin attended the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and received his undergraduate degree in Communications: Emphasis Public Relations and minored in Coaching. Justin then went straight to graduate school, where he received his Master of Arts degree in Communications. During his time working in admissions, he learned a lot about diversity and making a college more inclusive. This experience encouraged Justin to go back to school and in 2012 Justin received his Educational Doctoral degree (Ed.D.) from Madison Edgewood College.
Justin believes in encouraging minority students to strive for the best, while educating all students on becoming more inclusive and make Illinois College a place where diversity is appreciated inside and outside of the classroom. During Justin’s two years at Illinois College, he has seen an increase not only in the overall GPA of minority and international students, but also in the retention of minority students and international students.
