The Illinois College Department of English's Claridge Writer-in-Residence will give two public readings during the month of November.
Matthew Pitt's first reading will be on the Illinois College campus on Thursday, November 3, at 7 p.m. in the ICEBOX Theatre in Kirby Learning Center. Pitt will be reading his short story, Where You Get Ahead of Yourself, which was published in Cornell University’s literary journal, Epoch. The short story is about a quasi-superhero who possesses a severely meager power. One reviewer called this character “not a superhero, but a swell hero.”
“I wrote the story very recently, but the idea behind it originated during my high school days, back in St. Louis,” Pitt says.
The campus bookstore will have copies of Pitt’s book available for purchase.
The second reading will take place on Friday, November 18, at Our Town Books in downtown Jacksonville at 5 p.m. Pitt will be reading from his first book of short stories, Attention Please Now. Copies of his book will be available for purchase and signing after the reading.
