Heritage of Health Therapy & Senior Care is located one block east of Illinois College at 873 Grove Street in Jacksonville, IL. Heritage Health Therapy and Senior Care has openings for two interns: One in the Social Services department and one in the Therapy department. Both interns will work a typical work week of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday for ten weeks.
Social Services Intern
The Social Services intern will have the opportunity to: visit with residents, identify possible issues, administer screenings, identify family issues, become familiar with community services to assist residents with discharge and transition back to home care, review social services assessments, implement and update annual reviews including the geriatric depression scale and mini-mental exams, update social history, and write discharge notes. Understand role of hospice and power of attorney. The Intern may also work with activities director: assist with daily activities, plan activities, and encourage residents to get involved.
Skills needed: Empathy for the older population; acceptance of different behaviors due to dementia, Alzheimer’s, or other issues; flexibility and ability to multi-task; excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to work independently or as part of a team; self-confidence and interest in learning more about the older population. This is a good match for a psychology or sociology major, but all majors with the above skills are encouraged to apply.
The Therapy Intern will directly report to onsite program manager and may assist in provisions of treatment but may not independently deliver any therapy services. The intern will assist with patient set up and transportation to and from therapy department without moving resident to and from wheel chair, assist in maintaining cleanliness and organization of gym and rehab equipment, follow all facility infection control policies and procedures, copying, filing, and faxing documents as per the program manager. Professional conduct, communication, and dress while in facility is expected. A successful candidate must be able to perform moderate to heavy work that may include pushing in wheelchairs up to 300 lbs., assist with all daily activities and visit and encourage residents during treatments.
Skills needed: Love and empathy for older population, acceptance of different behaviors due to dementia or other individual diagnosis's, flexibility and ability to multi-task, excellent oral communication skills, ability to work independently or part of a team as all disciplines - PT, OT, & ST- work together daily, self-confidence and interest in learning more about rehab with the older population and how decisions are made to individualize treatments based on the resident’s needs, problem solving. This is a good match for Biology – Exercise Science majors, however all majors with the above skills are encouraged to apply.
