Alternative Break Service Trips
Habitat for Humanity Service Trip to Fort Smith, ArkansasThe alternative break service trip program is a unique service experience in which students engage in direct service to a community, while being immersed in the culture and customs of that community. Since 2005, Illinois College has offered a trip to Fort Smith, Arkansas to help Habitat for Humanity during winter break.

This is a great opportunity for students to help a family in need, learn new life skills and interact with diverse groups of people. Students have helped with a home’s foundation, plumbing, roofing, siding, putting in windows, painting, flooring, hanging doors and much more. Throughout the trip, team members participate in a variety of cultural, educational, recreational and reflective activities to enhance their service experience.
