Osage Orange Festival
Steuer Walkway, Illinois College Campus
Open to the Illinois College family and the Jacksonville community, the Osage Orange Festival will feature remarks from President Farley and entertainment from Southern Illinois bluegrass band, "The Harmans." Sponsored by the Alumni Association, Osage Orange is a time-honored tradition on the Illinois College campus. The event began with a picnic in 1882 when students and faculty took a break from their studies to trim the Osage hedge that surrounded campus. The picnic has grown into a festival in recent years to include musical entertainment and activities for all ages.
Mini pulled pork and chicken sandwiches will be served with macaroni and cheese, home style chips with seasoning, coleslaw and brownies. In addition, grilled corn on the cob, a cotton candy station and fruit bars will be offered. Beverages include sweet tea, lemonade and fruit punch. Meals cost $11 (adults), $6 (children 5-12) and free (Class of 2014, children 4 and younger). Beer and wine will be available for purchase, and free inflatable games and activities will be offered to kids.
President Farley has traveled a total of 17,880 miles to 13 cities throughout the U.S. to meet Illinois College alumni, parents and friends during her inaugural year as the 14th president of the College. The Osage Orange Festival will serve as the final stop on her tour.
