ResNet (Residential Networking)

What is it?
How do I use it?

ResNet General Guidelines

What is Residential Networking?

Illinois College students have network connections to their shared drives and Internet connections from their residence hall rooms. Most rooms have at least two network connections, which are ready for use. The students need to have a computer, network card, and network cable. Most computers purchased in the last couple of years contain a network card.

For more information on Residential Networking, contact the Help Desk at 245-3416 or by e-mail at helpdesk@ic.edu.

How Do I Use ResNet?

Illinois College students can use ResNet through their Residence Halls' rooms. We will attempt to connect all qualified machines, but please note that not all machines can be successfully connected. The Office of Information Technology does not guarantee that your machine will work on our network.

Once the computer is properly configured, the students can connect to ResNet.

General Guidelines

What is expected of ResNet users

  • you will provide a working computer that conforms to the minimum hardware specifications for ResNet
  • you will configure your own computer  (Help configuring computers is available on a limited basis. We cannot guarantee that our staff will be able to help.)

What we will not do

  • we will not upgrade systems nor will we supply operating system diskettes or CD's
  • we do not provide connection to general access lab software or applications
  • we do not provide productivity software (word processors, spreadsheets, databases)

Harassment

Harassment through electronic means is still harassment. Anyone using the network to harass others will be subject to termination of connection as well as any other sanction deemed necessary by the College.

Use of or connection to ResNet constitutes acceptance of these policies. Any violations of these standards can result in disciplinary actions as described in the Blue Book, as well as the immediate loss of network access, including Internet and file server privileges.

Any other questions you may have can be answered through the Office of Information Technology 245-3416.
