Institutional Review Board

The Illinois College Institutional Review Board (IRB) is charged with reviewing all research involving human subjects and vertebrate animals, conducted by staff, faculty, or students associated with Illinois College.

Purpose & Mission

  • To assure commonly accepted standards for the treatment of animals and ensure humane and dignified treatment of human research participants.
  • To protect Illinois College against potential litigation with regard to ethical treatment of subjects.
  • To publicly demonstrate Illinois College's commitment to uphold moral and ethical standards.

The mission of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) is to ensure the ethical treatment of all human and non-human vertebrate subjects in research and classroom settings at Illinois College. To this end, the IRB will: 1) establish guidelines for the use and treatment of research subjects; 2) review research and teaching agendas involving the use of live subjects; and 3) monitor research and teaching projects that involve the use of live subjects.
